FlyOver at Canada Place in Vancouver

FlyOver at Canada Place is a unique multi-dimensional movie theatre experience that’s also kind of an amusement ride. Located in downtown Vancouver, the cutting-edge flying theatre experience is one of the city’s most thrilling attractions. The one-of-a-kind ride takes you on breathtaking aerial journeys, using state-of-the-art motion seats, special effects, and a massive domed screen to simulate the feeling of flight.

At FlyOver they have films where you get to soar over Canada from one coast to the other. They also have additional featured films about other countries that rotate from time to time, as well as seasonal shows for Halloween and Christmas.

Around Christmas time they offer Soar With Santa. While it includes all the normal Flyover features, there is an additional short film at the end where you fly over the North Pole and Santa’s workshop. There are also a couple of pre-flight activities for young ones.

Location and Experience Overview

FlyOver is located on the west promenade deck of Canada Place at 999 Canada Place. Formerly known as FlyOver Canada, the attraction rebranded to “FlyOver” in 2024 to reflect its expanded global film offerings.

Each experience lasts about 25–30 minutes and includes the following:

  • A themed pre-show presentation

  • The main flight ride, complete with motion, wind, mist and scents

  • An immersive 8-minute feature film flying over incredible landscapes

You can typically choose between a Canada-based film or another international destination, or enjoy both as a double feature.

What the FlyOver Ride Feels Like

Once the main show begins, the seating platform lifts and positions you in front of a massive spherical screen. You’ll feel like you’re soaring in a silent helicopter over iconic landscapes. The seats move in sync with the visuals, and effects like wind, mist and even smells make the flight feel surprisingly real.

With the new projection system upgrade in 2024, the visual quality is sharper than ever—offering an even more immersive experience than you would have experienced in previous years.

Films at FlyOver at Canada Place

FlyOver’s latest signature film, Awaken Canada, premiered in the summer of 2024. It showcases Canada’s stunning natural beauty from coast to coast, east to west, and all the way to the Arctic. It shows pretty much year round.

Throughout the year, the theatre also features rotating films highlighting various destinations. Some examples are below.

  • Windborne: Call of the Canadian Rockies
  • Soar Over Taiwan

  • Legendary Iceland: Landscapes and Lore

  • FlyOver America

  • Wonders of the American West

  • Hawaii From Above

Seasonal shows for Halloween include spooky decorations and films with witches. During the Christmas season, there’s holiday lights, festive music and Santa sightings.

Who Can Ride FlyOver?

FlyOver is suitable for most people over 102 cm (40 inches) tall. Guests should not be pregnant, prone to motion sickness or have a fear of heights. Children, teens and adults alike love the experience. Even older seniors have enjoyed the ride—one visitor was 104 years old!

Families especially rave about the experience. Kids often describe it as “way better than a regular movie!” The films about Canada are especially recommended for guests from out of country. With Awaken Canada, you get to see the whole country without having to pay for an expensive plane ticket!
