Summer Music & Fireworks Festival in New Westminster
The Summer Music & Fireworks Festival is one of New Westminster’s most exciting free, family-friendly events. Hosted annually by the Hyack Festival Association, this end-of-summer celebration features live music, local vendors, a beer garden and a spectacular fireworks show. The event is a highlight of the season, offering a fun mix of entertainment for all ages.
Usually taking place in late August, the festival was previously known as the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival, but beginning in 2025, it goes by its new name. The Hyack Festival Association also organizes the popular Hyack Multicultural Parade & Festival every May.
Where It Happens
The festivities are held at Westminster Quay along Quayside Drive, right on the Fraser River waterfront. This scenic outdoor venue is just steps from the Fraser River Discovery Centre, a top local attraction for kids and families. It’s an ideal setting for a summer festival filled with music, shopping, food and fireworks.
What to Expect at the Festival
The Summer Music & Fireworks Festival typically runs from 3:00 pm until around 10:00 pm. The event kicks off with a market featuring local artisans and vendors, offering handmade crafts, candles, baked goods, chocolates and more.
Live entertainment begins in the late afternoon, with performances from talented musicians and bands on the outdoor stage. At the same time, the beer garden opens for guests to enjoy local beverages in a lively social atmosphere.
The festival ends with a fireworks display around 9:00 pm, lighting up the night sky over the Fraser River. The show lasts approximately 10 to 15 minutes and is a dazzling conclusion to a fantastic day.
Support the Festival with a 50/50 Draw
To help fund community events like this one, the Hyack Festival Association runs a 50/50 fundraising raffle. One lucky winner takes home half the pot, while the other half goes toward supporting local festivals and programming.
